Gilding with gold leaf

Placing gold leaves requires a very special skill : patience and concentration are essential.

Flat, embossed, with guilloch, crimped or worked gols are different types of gilding that require a certain approach in order to obtain the desired effect.

Supports that are to be worked with gold are covered with a gild base or "gesso". It is either applied in a uniform manner or in relief depending on the type of gold that is to be used.

The gold leaf is delicately placed on dry gesso. The surface is then burnished with an "agathe" to strengthen its radiance.

TheI use gold leaf sheets of 980 vintage (23,52 carats) for my designs. My  supplies come from "Dauvet", the last gold mixer in France.
